Tim Don on top step of Podium at Tongyeong BG Triathlon World Cup while 18 year old Corus Ambassador Hollie Avil takes silver in only her second World Cup race

Tim Don wins fourth round of BG Triathlon World Cup series

2006 World Champion Tim Don ran away from the opposition to win the fifth world cup of his career in South Korea, ahead of Athens Olympic silver medallist Bevan Docherty of New Zealand. His latest victory sees Don take another positive step in his build up towards the final British Triathlon Olympic qualifying race in Madrid on 25 May.

Don said on his win:

"I always give 100% and I was so pleased to get on top of the podium. I made sure I watched the women's race beforehand to see how technical the run course was. That's why I decided to push the pace on the twisty sections to make it hard on everybody else to catch me."

"I'm really strong at the moment in all three disciplines but not particularly quick, so for me it's now about going back to Britain, listening to my coach Ben Bright, and introducing some speed work to my training before the Olympic qualifier next month."

Not content to sit idly in the large bike pack of 37, Don frequently pushed the pace through the windy and cool conditions. Unable to break up the group on the bike he quickly established himself on the run where he moved to the front and continued to push the tempo, dropping contender after contender. With his unique running style, Don ran a closing 30:25 ten kilometres to claim his first world cup win since 2005.

In the women's race, young Hollie Avil, last year's junior World and European Champion, took her second podium in as many world cups. Following on from an excellent bronze on her debut two weeks ago in Ishigaki, Japan, Avil finished just nine seconds behind the vastly more experienced Samantha Warriner from New Zealand, 19 years her senior.

Avil said on her silver medal:

"I really enjoyed the race. The course was harder than Japan so that made for some different race tactics, which was excellent, as I'm still learning so much. When Sam [Warriner] surged on the final run lap I didn't quite have enough to go with her. I just loved it out there today and enjoyed the experience."

A large group containing all of the top names came together early in the bike leg and, in windy conditions and with two gruelling hills on the bike course, the lead group entered the second transition as one.

Within 50 metres of exiting transition, Warriner pushed the pace with only Avil and Vendual Frintova from the Czech Republic able to match her run pace. These three ran together, continuing to put time between themselves and the rest of the field, until the halfway point where Warriner injected another burst of speed to drop Frintova.
