2006 Triathlon World Champion, Tim Don, faces New Zealander Kris Gemmell this Sunday at the Corus Elite Series triathlon in GreenPark, Reading. Gemmell, a three time world cup winner, finished fourth behind Don when he won his World Championship gold in Switzerland two years ago, and has already qualified for the New Zealand Olympic Team. Don is using the Corus Elite Series race as a warm-up to the final British Triathlon Olympic qualifying race in Madrid on 25 May. The sprint distance (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run) being raced over around Reading's GreenPark is half that the triathletes contest on the world cup series and at the Beijing Olympic Games. The women's competition features Flora Duffy from Bermuda who has already been selected to race in Beijing. Despite having two English parents and going to college in Devon, Duffy was brought up on the Caribbean Island before moving back to the UK. European Under 23 Champion, Rosie Clarke from Cambridge, will be looking to make her mark on the field following two victories in Thailand earlier in the year. The women's elite race gets underway at 11am with the men starting at 1pm. | ||
