The season has finally begun! After a hard winter’s training, the season started this March, a season of which holds real importance for me and my team mates.

Eight years after I started competing in triathlon comes another Olympic year. Everything is focused around Beijing at the moment including all my training and other competitions.   After a successful season in 2007, I feel quietly confident about being selected for the Olympic team this summer; I’m in a very good position at the moment in terms of points because of my previous races.  I’m really looking forward to taking the chance to earn more points and to qualify through my own merit in the forthcoming competitions.  I’m in a great position because I don’t feel under too much pressure if I do qualify; it’s my first Olympics so I’m looking forward to just going there, not doing anything different from previous races and consequently doing the best I can.

The Olympics is the one that everyone wants to win; it’s everything to an athlete.  I see these Olympics both as experience for the future but I am also seriously looking to contend for a medal as well.

Corus have played such an important part in helping me get to this strong position.  In financing my training and my lifestyle Corus has made a huge difference to my life in and out of my sport.  Sadly it’s all about funding in triathlon; we’re not a rich sport and anything that helps us along the way to train and compete is fantastic; Corus has been really supportive of us in the British Team.  Corus’ work for grass roots sport is particularly of interest to me since I discovered triathlon through a similar means.  ‘Corus Kids of Steel’ is a great opportunity for kids to experience triathlon and learn more about the sport.  Building the sport for the future is just as important and helping it develop today and it’s fantastic that Corus are supporting both areas of triathlon.

Sunday 30th March sees off my first major race of the year in Mooloolaba BG Triathlon World Cup on Australia’s sunshine coast.  From there I fly to Ishigaki in Japan for another World Cup race in the beginning of April.  I’ll keep you updated with my progress…!
