British Triathlon

British TriathlonThe British Triathlon Federation is the national governing body for the sport of triathlon in Great Britain. British Triathlon was formed on 11th December 1982 at the Mall Health Club in Reading. The first British race was staged at Kirtons Farm near Reading in June 1983 with 173 competitors.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Triathlon continued to grow in popularity. The President of the British Triathlon Federation, Sarah Springman was one of the most prolific medallist. Simon Lessing and Spencer Smith ensured Britain was one of the top triathlon nations, with Lessing winning four World Championships.

British Triathlon has over 10,000 members spread across the Home Nations, which are run by Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland and Welsh Triathlon. Throughout the UK there are over 450 registered events and over 300 affiliated clubs.
